Pharmaceutical and Drug Litigation

Every year, thousands are injured or killed by prescription drugs and over-the-counter medication. Many people are also injured or killed by defective or faulty medical devices.

The lawyers at Pittman, Dutton, Kirby & Hellums have experience representing people who have been injured by unsafe drugs and medical devices. Over the years, we have successfully litigated and settled hundred of lawsuits on behalf of people injured by unsafe pharmaceutical drugs and defective medical devices, including those injured by the diet drug Fen-Phen (Pondimin and Phentermine).

Celestone Betamethasone

Many patients receive a Celestone, Betamethasone, Vitamin B combination shot during the cold and flu season.  This 3 in 1 shot is a combination compound containing Celestone, Betamethasone, and Vitamin B.  The compound is injected by doctors for the relief of some cold and flu symptoms.  Recently, a number of people in Alabama started having bad reactions in the area where shot was given, typically the hip or buttocks.  These reactions include swelling and/or infection at the injection site.  Some patients have required hospitalization.  We believe that the manufacturer/distributor of the compound may have distributed a bad batch of the compound.  We believe the affected product was manufactured or distributed by a company called Partners In Care.  We are currently representing several people who have been negatively impacted by this medication.

If you or someone you know was injured by the compound, please contact us today.

Vioxx Litigation

We are currently litigating pharmaceutical drug and medical device cases where the drug or device has been withdrawn, recalled, or where a black box warning has been issued. For instance, we are currently representing people injured by the use of Vioxx (rofecoxib), which was manufactured Merck & Co., Inc.  Last year, Merck announced a voluntary withdrawal of Vioxx from the market due to safety concerns of an increased risk of cardiovascular events (including heart attack and stroke) in patients on Vioxx.

Vioxx is a prescription COX-2 selective, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that was approved by the FDA in May 1999 for the relief of osteoarthritis, for the management of acute pain in adults, and for the treatment of menstrual symptoms.  Vioxx was later approved for the relief of rheumatoid arthritis in both adults and children. According to estimates by the Food & Drug Administration, tens of thousands of American may have died from heart attcks and strokes after using Vioxx.

Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT)

Lawyers at Pittman, Dutton, Kirby & Hellums are currently serving on several national steering committees in the Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) litigation. Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) drugs, such as Prempro, Premarin and Premphase, which have been used to reduce the symptoms of menopause for decades, may place patient at a much higher risk for breast cancer, heart attack, stroke, blood clots, and other serious medical problems.
